TEHRAN – In a significant move to enhance the global presence of Iranian healthcare solutions, knowledge-based firms from Iran will participate in EXPO MED 2025, scheduled from April 24 to 26 in Istanbul, Turkey. As emphasized by Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi, achieving self-sufficiency in medicine and medical equipment production is a top priority for the Iranian government. He stated, “We are trying to reach self-sufficiency for the supply of medicine and medical equipment,” according to an IRNA report.

Highlighting the nation’s capabilities, the head of Iran’s Union of Medical Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters mentioned that approximately $20 million worth of medical equipment is exported annually to over 60 countries. This showcases the robust growth of Iran’s medical manufacturing sector on the international stage.

Significantly, more than 70% of medical equipment utilized in Iran is produced domestically, including 100% of standard hospital beds. According to Abdolreza Yaqoubzadeh, over 95% of specialized ICU and CCU beds, as well as more than 85% of operating room medical equipment, such as anesthesia machines, are crafted using advanced technology within the country.

Yaqoubzadeh further noted that the national demand for medical equipment production stands at approximately $3 to $4 billion annually, with about $1 billion of this figure met through imports. The Iranian medical equipment sector is thriving, with around 600 active companies producing approximately 99% of the medicine required for the domestic market.

The capabilities of medical equipment manufacturers in Iran are impressive, with the production and supply of over 10,000 different types of medical equipment available for both domestic and export markets. Notably, various laboratory equipment is manufactured at prices significantly lower than their foreign counterparts, marking a competitive edge for Iranian products.
