Funding for AI Development

In a significant move to bolster the AI sector, the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, alongside the National Development Fund (NDF), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) worth $100 million for the development of AI in the country. This agreement was formalized by Hossein Afshin, an official from the Vice Presidency, and Mehdi Ghazanfari, head of the NDF.

The MOU outlines a strategic framework aimed at fostering the development and implementation of AI technologies in alignment with the seventh national development plan (2023-2027). This initiative is also in response to the directives from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, emphasizing the need for investment in emerging fields.

The projects introduced by the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology will be financially supported through various mechanisms, including loans and partnerships. To enhance collaboration between universities and the private sector, the NDF will offer specific loans to companies that financially back AI-based projects at universities and scientific centers. In return, the Vice Presidency will leverage financing tools to support emerging technologies.
