Yemen Launches Bold Strike on Ben Gurion Airport: Escalating Tensions in the Region

On Sunday, Yemeni forces launched a military operation aimed at the Israeli regime’s Ben Gurion Airport, demonstrating their solidarity with Gaza amidst ongoing conflict. This significant event underscores the escalating tensions in the region and the continued support for the Palestinian cause by various factions.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, confirmed the missile strike, stating that operations would persist until the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is addressed. The Israeli military corroborated the missile launch from Yemen towards Tel Aviv, which activated air raid sirens in central areas and led to the temporary closure of Ben Gurion Airport’s airspace.

Saree highlighted the operation as a response to what he termed the “genocide and starvation” inflicted by the Israeli regime on the Palestinian people. He expressed the urgency of the situation in Gaza, stating:

“The missile force of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a qualitative military operation targeting Lod Airport (Ben Gurion Airport) in the occupied area of Jaffa (Tel Aviv) with a hypersonic ballistic missile of Palestine-2. The operation achieved its goal successfully, by the grace of God, causing millions of the Zionist settlers to rush to shelters and leading to the suspension of airport operations.”

He further questioned the silence of the international community regarding the ongoing violence, emphasizing the need for action:

“What has been happening in Gaza for nearly two years is clear evidence of the enemy’s disregard for the blood of our brothers in Palestine, and its contempt for the blood of Arabs and Muslims. The unprecedented crime of genocide has not ceased, and the siege and starvation continue before the eyes and ears of the whole world. So how long will the nations, their peoples, and their states continue in this silence and abandonment?”

The Yemeni military reiterated that their operations would persist until the U.S.-backed Israeli actions cease. This latest missile launch occurred shortly after Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on a power station in Hezyaz, located in the Sanhan District, south of Sanaa, Yemen’s capital.

The Israeli regime claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting it targeted energy infrastructure. The strike resulted in a fire at the power station, which was eventually contained by civil defense teams. Mohammad Moftah, Deputy Prime Minister of the Sanaa-based government, reported that restoration efforts were initiated promptly.

  • Ali Hussein Alaya, Director of the Hezyaz power station, condemned the repeated attacks on the facility, affirming their commitment to serving the public.
  • Hazem al-Asad, a member of the Political Bureau of Ansarallah, remarked, “A bankrupt enemy only targets civilian infrastructure,” highlighting the regime’s relentless assault on essential services.

Military experts noted that Yemen’s rapid retaliation was expected, interpreting the Israeli airstrike as a sign of the regime’s increasing desperation and failure. They pointed out that such military actions often provoke counter-responses and escalate tensions further.

This ongoing conflict not only affects the immediate regions involved but also has broader implications for international politics and humanitarian efforts. The situation in Gaza continues to be a focal point of global concern, with calls for intervention and support for the Palestinian people growing louder.

As the situation unfolds, it remains critical for the international community to address the humanitarian crisis and the escalating violence. The voices of those affected in Gaza must be amplified, and solutions sought that uphold human rights and dignity for all involved.

In conclusion, the military operation by Yemeni forces reflects a complex interplay of regional politics and solidarity movements. The commitment to support the Palestinian people amid such dire circumstances highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive resolution to the ongoing conflict.
