Iran Calls on IAEA to Embrace Constructive Dialogue Over Politicized Tactics

In a recent development regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to maintain a constructive and technical approach in its dealings with the country. This call for cooperation highlights the ongoing diplomatic negotiations surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities.

During a phone conversation on Wednesday, Araghchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi discussed the current state of interactions between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog. The key points from their discussion include:

  • Commitment to Cooperation: Araghchi emphasized Iran’s determination to work with the IAEA in accordance with its international obligations.
  • Avoiding Politicization: He called on the IAEA to steer clear of politicized approaches and focus on technical cooperation.
  • Unjustified Pressure: Araghchi stressed the importance of conducting negotiations in a technical atmosphere, free from the “unjustified pressure” from certain countries.

On the other hand, Grossi affirmed the IAEA’s intention to engage in serious cooperation with Iran. He mentioned plans to negotiate with all involved parties to create suitable conditions for resolving outstanding issues.

It is noteworthy that back in November 2024, the IAEA’s Board of Governors passed a resolution accusing Iran of “non-compliance” with its safeguards obligations. Iran responded by labeling the resolution as “unjust” and claimed it was influenced by pressure from the United States and the E3 group—comprising Britain, Germany, and France—despite extensive inspections being conducted at Iran’s nuclear sites by the IAEA.
