Iran and Pakistan Join Forces to Foster Regional Peace, Says Iranian Lawmaker

Tehran, IRNA – The Head of the Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Fada Hossein Maleki, emphasized the significant strides both nations have made in fostering peace and stability in the region. This commitment has been reinforced over the years, showcasing the enduring relationship between Iran and Pakistan.

In a recent interview with IRNA, conducted on Saturday, Maleki shed light on Iran’s unwavering support for Pakistan and the rich historical and cultural connections that bind the two countries. This discussion comes just ahead of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif‘s upcoming visit to Tehran.

As a representative of Zahedan in the Iranian Parliament, Maleki noted several key points regarding the diplomatic and military collaborations between Tehran and Islamabad, which are primarily aimed at enhancing regional stability:

  • Both nations are exploring trade and economic cooperation, leveraging their shared long borders.
  • Officials from Iran and Pakistan have previously agreed to establish commercial and industrial towns in border areas to boost security and facilitate economic exchanges.
  • Recent tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly concerning an attack on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir, have seen a de-escalation thanks to Iran’s mediating role.

Maleki emphasized that Tehran has consistently urged both New Delhi and Islamabad to avoid escalating tensions, especially given the region’s susceptibility to crises. During Sharif’s visit, discussions will encompass various critical issues, including:

  1. The ongoing Pakistan-India conflict.
  2. Negotiations between Iran and the United States.
  3. Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia.
  4. Trilateral cooperation involving Iran, Pakistan, and China.

According to Pakistan’s foreign ministry, Sharif’s official visit will cover several countries, including Turkey, Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan, from May 25 to 30.
