Iran Praises India-Pakistan Ceasefire, Urges for Sustainable Peace in the Region

The recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan marks a significant step towards stabilizing the region, a development warmly welcomed by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei. This truce comes after four days of intense hostilities that raised global concerns regarding security in South Asia.

Baqaei commended the truce between Islamabad and New Delhi, urging both nations to:

  • Seize this opportunity for de-escalation.
  • Work towards lasting peace in the region.

He also praised the leaders of India and Pakistan for their “wise and responsible move” to halt cross-border clashes, expressing optimism that normalcy would soon be restored between the two countries. His remarks followed the confirmation by both nations on Saturday afternoon regarding the U.S.-mediated ceasefire deal.

India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar announced on X, “India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on the cessation of firing and military action.”

The recent military escalation between these two nuclear-armed states had raised alarms not only regionally but also globally. In response, several countries, including Iran, offered to mediate in order to ease tensions. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reiterated Tehran’s readiness to facilitate dialogue, highlighting the importance of India and Pakistan as “brothers and neighbors” with deep-rooted historical ties.

Araqchi extended this offer ahead of his official visits to:

  1. Islamabad on Monday
  2. New Delhi on Wednesday

These diplomatic efforts are crucial in ensuring that peace prevails and that the region moves towards a more stable future.
