In a recent statement, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, the Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, emphasized Iran’s dedication to fostering peace in the region. He asserted that the security of the Persian Gulf must be ensured by the regional states themselves.

During a ceremony held on Tuesday to commemorate Persian Gulf Day on April 30, Rear Admiral Tangsiri highlighted the following key points:

  • The presence of foreign forces in the Persian Gulf is viewed as a security threat.
  • Regional cooperation is essential, free from the interference of extra-regional powers.
  • Enemies aim to create insecurity and promote arms sales in the region.
  • Iran remains committed to being the guardian of security in the Persian Gulf.
  • Those traveling thousands of miles to the region do not prioritize its security.

Rear Admiral Tangsiri also emphasized the economic significance of the Persian Gulf, noting that:

  • 62% of the region’s oil is exported through this vital waterway.
  • 40% of its natural gas is also exported via the Persian Gulf.

He stated, “Today, we have firmly secured the Strait of Hormuz, with more than 80 ships passing through this international waterway daily,” underscoring Iran’s strategic role in maintaining security and stability in the region.
