Tehran Unveils Powerful Documentary on Turkish Doctor's Impact in Gaza

On Saturday, a poignant documentary titled “Dr. Taner” premiered at Tehran’s Palestine Café, coinciding with Gaza Day. The film features the remarkable story of Turkish physician Taner Kamaci, a pediatric surgery specialist who dedicated his efforts to volunteering in Gaza. This screening attracted a diverse audience of Palestinian solidarity activists, artists, and the esteemed Dr. Kamaci himself, as reported by Mehr.

Directed by the talented Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Majidpour, the documentary captures the life and humanitarian endeavors of Taner Kamaci, who traveled to Gaza with a team of international doctors in the aftermath of the events on October 7. Dr. Kamaci’s earlier interview with TRT World shed light on the dire healthcare situation in Gaza during his volunteer mission. He recounted how medical staff were forced to stitch injured patients in standing positions due to a critical shortage of medical supplies and the overwhelming number of casualties. “During my two-week stay amidst ongoing Israeli bombardments, my medical team was able to perform surgeries on nearly 400 patients,” he explained.

He elaborated on the operational challenges, stating that only four hospitals were functioning in Gaza, with surgeries being possible in just two. “This left many patients requiring long-term treatment without necessary care,” he lamented.

Kamaci condemned the Israeli forces for their indiscriminate targeting of civilians, including vulnerable populations such as the elderly, women, and children. He described the situation as significantly worse than what is currently reported, emphasizing the urgent need for global awareness.
