Unveiling Creativity: 11th Islamic Revolution Art Week Launches with Vibrant Celebrations

The 11th Islamic Revolution Art Week has officially commenced, bringing together cultural officials and artists for a vibrant celebration at the holy shrine of Imam Khomeini (RA) and the grave of martyr Morteza Avini. This significant event serves to honor the legacy of Avini, a prominent figure in Iranian documentary filmmaking.

During the opening ceremony, attendees were treated to a captivating musical performance, after which flowers were laid at the grave of martyr Avini, and a portrait of him was unveiled. The portrait, created by Seyyed Ali Mirfattah, carries a profound message that resonates with many, as he expressed: “If this work and portrait have any blessing or virtue, it is due to the esteemed name of Avini, who truly holds a rightful place in our hearts.”

Mirfattah shared his vision for a new series of portraits titled “Wall of Faith,” aiming to capture the faces of individuals he feels indebted to, particularly those from contemporary times. He stated, “Each time I prepared a list of names, Morteza Avini’s name was at the top.”

He further emphasized the significance of Avini, saying, “We are deeply indebted to and grateful for all martyrs, but martyr Morteza Avini has played a particularly significant role in the thoughts, work, and lives of many of us.”

Following the portrait unveiling, the ceremony featured a heartfelt reading by Mostafa Mohaddesi Khorasani, a distinguished poet of the Islamic Revolution. He recited a ghazal he composed on the anniversary of Seyyed Morteza Avini’s martyrdom, further enriching the emotional atmosphere of the event.

As part of this year’s festivities, a diverse group of cultural officials and artists from the Art Bureau convened at the shrine of Imam Khomeini (RA) to reaffirm their commitment to the principles and ideals of the Imam and the Revolution.

Organized annually by the Art Bureau of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization, the art week aims to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of documentarian Morteza Avini. The week is set to feature:

• Theatrical and musical performances that celebrate Iranian culture and history

Morteza Avini was tragically martyred by a landmine in 1993 while documenting the Iran-Iraq war. His final project, A City in the Sky, focused on the fall of Khorramshahr and the city’s liberation during the war. Avini’s work gained immense recognition, particularly for his documentary The Narration of Triumph, which earned him the title of “the master of martyred writers” among his peers and war veterans due to his passionate storytelling.

Avini’s contributions to Iranian cinema and culture have been honored by numerous personalities and organizations over the years. Notably, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, participated in his funeral procession, which began on Tehran’s Qarani Street at the Revayate Fath (Narration of Triumph) Cultural Institute. This institute was established by the Leader’s directive in 1991 to produce films centered around the Sacred Defense.

Moreover, the Cinéma Vérité festival, Iran’s premier international documentary film event, annually recognizes films that portray themes of war and resistance. This festival includes the prestigious Avini Awards, which are dedicated to honoring exceptional works related to these themes.
