China’s Unity in Focus: CPPCC Concludes Dynamic Annual Session in Beijing
On Monday, the annual session of China’s top political advisory body concluded in Beijing, marking a significant event in the nation’s political calendar. The closing meeting of the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held at the esteemed Great Hall of the People, attended by President Xi Jinping and various other prominent Chinese leaders. This important event attracted a substantial number of international media representatives, alongside local journalists, showcasing the global interest in China’s political landscape.
During the meeting, Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a pivotal address focusing on several key areas crucial for China’s progress. He emphasized the need to:
- Deepen reform
- Advance high-quality development
- Protect and improve people’s livelihoods
- Ensure social stability
Wang stated, “We must serve the big picture and people’s livelihood through high-quality consultation and suggestions, so as to deepen unity and solidarity.” His remarks reflect the CPPCC’s commitment to fostering collaboration and constructive dialogue among various political entities within China.
During the closing session, crucial resolutions were ratified, including:
- A resolution concerning the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee.
- A resolution addressing the handling of proposals from CPPCC members since the last annual session.
- A report evaluating new proposals.
- A political resolution regarding the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.
The CPPCC plays a vital role in promoting cooperation among multiple political parties while engaging in political consultation under the guidance of the Communist Party of China (CPC). This advisory body, elected for a five-year term, comprises over 2,000 members representing not only the CPC but also various other political parties and sectors of society. Members of the CPPCC are tasked with submitting proposals related to state affairs for deliberation, thereby influencing national policy.
The annual meetings of the CPPCC and the National People’s Congress (NPC) are collectively known as the Two Sessions. The NPC, which is China’s top legislative body, will conduct its closing session on Tuesday, following the CPPCC’s conclusion.
Since 2014, China has implemented a program to ensure comprehensive media coverage of the Two Sessions while providing direct insights into the nation’s political developments. The China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC) hosts media exchange programs biannually under the auspices of the China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA). For the initial phase of its 2025 program, which extends over four months, the CIPCC has invited more than 120 journalists from over 100 countries. Approximately 50 journalists attended the opening ceremony held in Beijing on February 27, highlighting the event’s significance on the global stage.
The 2025 Two Sessions has generated increased international interest, largely due to China’s remarkable advancements in technology. As the country continues to position itself as a leading global technology hub, its initiatives to foster technology free from Western influence have garnered attention worldwide. This shift is indicative of China’s strategic focus on self-reliance and innovation in the tech sector.
In summary, the closing meeting of the CPPCC not only underscores the importance of political consultation in China but also reflects the nation’s aspirations for high-quality development and social stability. As these sessions unfold, they provide a platform for discussion and proposal, impacting China’s future trajectory on both domestic and international fronts. The world watches closely as China navigates its path towards becoming a dominant force in technology and governance.
