Iran's Pezeshkian: Engaging in Talks Without Yielding to Bullies

Pezeshkian: Iran Open to Dialogue, Stands Firm Against ‘Bullies’

In a recent statement, President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran is open to negotiations but will not succumb to “bullies.” He reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s commitment to peace and stability in the West Asia region, highlighting the complexities of diplomatic relations amid U.S. pressure.

During a meeting with government officials in Tehran Province, President Pezeshkian addressed the renewed “maximum pressure campaign” implemented by U.S. President Donald Trump, which began shortly after his second term commenced. Despite the reinstatement of this policy—originally adopted in 2018 following the U.S. withdrawal from a significant nuclear agreement with Iran—Trump expressed willingness to engage in talks with Tehran.

  • Sanctions and Negotiations: “We should not be afraid of sanctions,” said President Pezeshkian, referring to the Trump administration’s efforts to curtail Iran’s oil sales and other economic activities.
  • Negotiation Stance: He stated, “Some say there is no alternative but to negotiate with them [the United States]. We did not say we would not negotiate, but we are not due to give in to bullies.”
  • Human Rights Concerns: The president condemned negotiating with those who “bury women and children under their bombings while claiming to respect human rights,” arguing that Iran must retain its defensive capabilities.

President Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran does not seek conflict, aiming instead to coexist peacefully with other Muslim nations in the region. He noted that Iran has not instigated tensions; rather, he pointed to Israel’s aggressive actions, which he claims are supported by the U.S.

In a separate address to industrialists and economic stakeholders in Tehran Province, he acknowledged the challenges posed by adversaries attempting to disrupt Iran’s production sector. He assured the audience of his administration’s commitment to support industrial growth and entrepreneurship, stating:

“We know that we are in an all-out economic war… We will do whatever we can to support the industry sector and entrepreneurs. The enemy tries to create problems for the country’s production cycle. We will not allow this to happen.”

President Pezeshkian’s remarks reflect Iran’s complex position amid international pressures and its determination to pursue a path of peace and economic resilience.
