The upcoming 10th IranPharma Exhibition is set to become the largest specialized pharmaceutical event in Iran, taking place in Tehran from September 24 to 26. This highly anticipated event will feature 743 companies from 28 countries, making it a vital platform for industry stakeholders.

With the theme “Sustainability, Resilience, and Innovation,” the exhibition is organized by the Iranian Syndicate of Pharmaceutical Industries and will be hosted at the Grand Musalla in Tehran. It aims to bring together a diverse range of domestic and international companies, associations, and related organizations, creating an environment conducive to collaboration and growth.

The importance of self-sufficiency in medicine and medical equipment production is a top priority for the Iranian government. Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi emphasized this commitment, stating, “We are trying to reach self-sufficiency for the supply of medicine and medical equipment,” as reported by IRNA.

According to recent statements from the head of Iran’s Union of Medical Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters, the country exports medical equipment worth approximately $20 million annually to over 60 countries. This highlights Iran’s growing presence in the global medical equipment market.

Notably, over 70 percent of medical equipment and 100 percent of standard hospital beds are produced domestically, as reported by Abdolreza Yaqoubzadeh, the union’s head. He further explained that:

  • More than 95 percent of specific ICU and CCU beds are manufactured using advanced technology in Iran.
  • Over 85 percent of operating room medical equipment, including anesthesia machines, is also produced locally.

Yaqoubzadeh noted that Iran’s annual demand for medical equipment production ranges from three to four billion dollars, with about one billion dollars of this amount being met through imports. Currently, approximately 600 medical equipment companies are operational within the country, contributing significantly to the local market.

These manufacturers are responsible for producing around 99 percent of the medicine supplied to Iran’s domestic market, showcasing the country’s capacity for self-reliance in healthcare. Moreover, Iranian medical equipment manufacturers supply over 10,000 types of medical equipment to both local and international markets. Notably, various laboratory equipment is now available at prices significantly lower than their foreign counterparts.

As the 10th IranPharma Exhibition approaches, it promises to be a landmark event in the pharmaceutical sector, fostering innovation and collaboration that could shape the future of healthcare in Iran and beyond.
