Iran Denounces Deadly Hospital Attack in Sudan’s Darfur: A Call for Global Action

In a tragic event that has drawn international condemnation, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has strongly denounced a recent drone attack on a hospital in El Fasher city, located in Sudan’s western Darfur region. This devastating incident resulted in the loss of at least 70 lives, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian protection in conflict zones.

Baghaei expressed his deep concern over the killing of civilians and the targeting of civilian infrastructures, such as hospitals. He emphasized the importance of adhering to humanitarian law regulations. In addition, he called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan and advocated for a political solution to the ongoing crisis.

The drone attack, which targeted the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher, occurred on Friday. According to reports from the World Health Organization (WHO), the toll from this assault has reached:

  • 70 fatalities
  • 19 injuries

This medical facility was one of the few remaining operational hospitals in the area, making the attack even more catastrophic. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the assault, noting that the hospital was filled with patients during the incident.

Since April 2023, the Sudanese army has been engaged in a violent conflict with the paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which currently holds control over most of the Darfur region. This ongoing conflict continues to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
