Hamas Accuses Israel of Ceasefire Breaches as Netanyahu Warns of Renewed All-Out War

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stark warning regarding the ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing potential military action if Palestinian prisoners are not released. This escalating situation follows claims by Hamas, the governing body in Gaza, that Israel is breaching a ceasefire agreement.

On Monday, Abu Obeida, spokesperson for Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades, highlighted several key points regarding the ceasefire violations:

  • The Israeli military is reportedly breaching the ceasefire agreement.
  • Hamas has decided to postpone the release of three prisoners scheduled for a swap.
  • Israel is allegedly delaying the return of displaced individuals to northern Gaza.
  • There are reports of ongoing shelling and gunfire targeting various areas in the strip.
  • Relief supplies are being restricted from entering Gaza, contrary to the terms of the ceasefire.

In response, Netanyahu declared on Tuesday that if the prisoners are not released by Saturday, “the ceasefire will end” and the Israeli military “will resume intense combat.” This statement underscores the fragile nature of the current peace efforts.

The ceasefire, which went into effect on January 19, marked a brief respite following 15 months of intense conflict in Gaza, a region already recognized as one of the most densely populated areas in the world.

Despite the ceasefire, the situation remains dire. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 118 Palestinians have been killed and 822 wounded in Israeli strikes since the agreement was established.
