Fajr International Theater Festival Wraps Up with Spectacular Awards and Celebrations

The 43rd edition of the Fajr International Theater Festival (FITF) concluded at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on Saturday, marking a significant event in the world of performing arts. The festival showcased a variety of performances and celebrated the rich cultural landscape of theater, drawing attention from both local and international audiences.

Numerous dignitaries graced the event, including:

  • Seyyed Abbas Salehi – Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance
  • Fatemeh Mohajerani – Government Spokesperson
  • Zahra Behrouz-Azar – Vice President for Women and Family Affairs
  • Nadereh Rezai – Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs
  • Iraj Raad – Director of Iran Theatre House
  • Numerous artists and theater professionals

The festival’s awards recognized outstanding talent across various categories:

  • Stage Theater Section:
    • Special Jury Award: “Malek Mohammad,” co-directed by Sahand and Babak Qeisari from Tabriz
    • Best Director: Mojtaba Rostamifar for “Laam”
    • Best Playwright: Ebrahim Adelnia for “Hunting Customs of Foxes”
  • Street Theater Section:
    • Special Jury Award: “Confessions of a Criminal,” co-directed by Mehdi Habibi and Mostafa Kolivandi
    • Best Director: Saeid Badini
    • Best Playwright: Saeid Badini for “Anatomy of a Letter”

This year’s festival introduced the Soldier of the Homeland emblem to honor the legacy of Martyr General Qassem Soleimani. The recipients of this prestigious medal included:

  • Vida Mousavi – Actress and director of the play “Lajan-khar”
  • Reza Goshtasb – Writer of plays “Bijan,” “Water for Fish,” and “A Few Wolves from Mother’s Wedding Mahjan”
  • Alii Peyman – Writer, director, and actor of the play “Rig Chah”

This year’s festival saw an impressive global participation, with submissions from 46 countries around the world. A total of 231 works from nations including Russia, Norway, Sweden, Canada, and various African countries were submitted. However, it is important to note that the international section was held as a non-competitive segment.

Additionally, this edition of the Fajr International Theater Festival dedicated a special section to raise awareness about the plight of the oppressed people of Gaza, highlighting the festival’s commitment to social issues and cultural discourse.
