Discover Iran’s Rich Culture: Intl. Iranology Congress Set for Tehran and Shiraz This November!

The upcoming International Iranology Congress is set to take place in Tehran and Shiraz from November 15 to 18, organized by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization in collaboration with the Iranology Foundation. This event promises to be a significant gathering of scholars and researchers from both Iran and across the globe, all focused on advancing the field of Iranian studies and promoting tourism.

During the congress, participants will engage in discussions centered around six primary themes:

  • Critical assessments and approaches in Iranology
  • Studies on contemporary Iran
  • Iranology in cultural diplomacy and international relations
  • Iranology and new technologies
  • Iranology and tourism
  • Hafez poetry as an epitome of Persian culture

One of the highlights of the congress will be a specialized session on “Iranology and Tourism,” scheduled for November 16 at the University of Science and Culture in Tehran. This session will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will feature a presentation by Seyyed Saeed Hashemi, an associate professor and dean of the university’s Faculty of Tourism.

In a press briefing held on Sunday, Hashemi explained that the concept for this international congress was initiated by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization last year, with active preparations taking place this year. He mentioned that renowned universities, including Tehran, Shiraz, Allameh Tabataba’i, Science and Culture, and Shahid Beheshti, are expected to play supportive roles in the congress.

Hashemi emphasized the congress’s goal of fostering academic collaboration and enhancing the international perception of Iran. He stated, “Iran has often been underrepresented despite its strong cultural position,” and highlighted that this event could potentially “influence perspectives and policies toward Iran” through scholarly engagement.

The upcoming tourism-focused session will delve into various topics, including:

  • Literary tourism
  • Travel writing

Scholars from diverse countries, including Georgia, Russia, Iraq, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia, have been invited to participate, alongside Iranian academics. This international collaboration aims to facilitate a rich exchange of ideas regarding Iran’s cultural and tourism-related studies.

Hashemi further noted that the congress will serve as a platform for establishing partnerships between tourism professionals and university researchers. This collaboration is expected to deepen their understanding of Iranology and pave the way for joint academic and promotional initiatives in the field.

The International Iranology Congress is anticipated to be a landmark event, bringing together a wealth of knowledge and expertise. As scholars engage in meaningful dialogue, the congress will not only enrich the field of Iranian studies but also highlight the importance of tourism in showcasing Iran’s rich cultural heritage.

By fostering cooperation among academics and tourism experts, this congress aims to provide new insights into Iran’s diverse cultural landscape, ultimately contributing to a more nuanced understanding of the country on a global scale.

As the congress approaches, it promises to be an exciting opportunity for intellectual exchange and collaboration, reinforcing the significance of Iran’s cultural contributions to the world.
