Araqchi Advocates for Renewed Diplomatic Efforts with European Troika

In a recent development regarding diplomatic relations, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has once again advocated for diplomacy with the European troika—France, Germany, and Britain. This proposal comes amidst fluctuating relations between Tehran and these key European nations.

Araqchi shared his views through a message on X on Thursday, emphasizing that the current state of affairs represents a “lose-lose” situation for all parties involved. He stated:

“Iran’s relations with the E3 have experienced ups and downs in recent history. Like it or not, they are currently down. Why? Each side has its own narrative. To me, placing blame is a futile exercise.”

He continued to express his commitment to dialogue, recalling a previous meeting in New York last September where he extended an offer for discussions:

“Last September in New York, I offered dialogue when I met E3 FMs and indeed any other European counterpart. Instead of confrontation, I put forward cooperation not only on the nuclear issue, but in each and every other area of mutual interest & concern,” but “they unfortunately chose the hard way.”

Reiterating his stance, Araqchi stated:

“I once again propose diplomacy.”

Following consultations in Moscow and Beijing, Araqchi expressed his readiness to initiate discussions with visits to:

  • Paris
  • Berlin
  • London

He noted that he had been prepared to undertake these visits prior to the commencement of indirect dialogues between Tehran and the United States in Muscat, Oman, mentioning that:

“The E3 opted out.”

In conclusion, Araqchi emphasized the importance of the E3’s response, stating:

“The ball is now in the E3’s court. They have an opportunity to do away with the grip of Special Interest groups and forge a different path. How we act at this critical junction is likely to define the foreseeable future.”
