WFP Unveils Insightful September Report on Iran: Key Findings and Implications
In September, the World Food Program (WFP) assisted 33,107 beneficiaries in Iran, including Afghan and Iraqi refugees, and Iranian teachers. The program provided staple food baskets and adjusted cash transfers to support living costs, with increased amounts for both male and female-headed households. WFP also supported 53 celiac patients and 399 refugees with disabilities. Additionally, the organization initiated 25 income-generating projects benefiting 310 refugees. With nearly 35,000 registered refugees in 20 settlements, WFP continues to address food security needs through various programs, amid an evolving economic landscape and ongoing humanitarian challenges in Iran.

Schools to Host Earthquake Safety Drills: Preparing Students for Natural Disasters
On Saturday, Iran will conduct its 27th National Earthquake and Safety Drill across schools, aiming to enhance earthquake awareness and preparedness among students, teachers, and families. Organized by the International Research Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) with various partners, the drill focuses on creating “safe schools, resilient society.” This year, it will also aim to improve preparedness in surrounding neighborhoods and ensure inclusivity for students with disabilities. UNICEF has launched a program to develop educational resources for children with disabilities, emphasizing disaster preparedness. The initiative promotes a culture of resilience, equipping all children to face seismic challenges.

WHO Representatives Join FDA Meetings to Enhance Regulatory Framework for Biological Drugs and Blood Products
In a recent collaboration, WHO representatives Adham Rashad Ismail Abdel Moneim and Rogério Gaspar met with Iran’s FDA from April 7-9 to discuss improving pharmaceutical standards, focusing on biological drugs and blood products. Hamidreza Inanlou emphasized the importance of refining regulatory frameworks, while FDA director Mehdi Pirsalehi highlighted Iran’s achievements in medicine and its goal to reach WHO regulatory maturity levels. Iran aims to enhance its global credibility through the WHO Prequalification program and proposed a joint working group to achieve regulatory goals. Additionally, Iran is committed to self-sufficiency in medical production, producing over 70% of its equipment domestically.
Meet Karkheh’s First Adorable Yellow Deer of the Year!
A Persian yellow deer was born in Karkheh National Park, Khuzestan, marking the first birth of the current Iranian year and highlighting successful wildlife conservation efforts. The population of these endangered deer has risen from five in 2019 to 15 in 2024 due to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) effective breeding strategies. Once thought extinct, four yellow deer were rediscovered and reintroduced 50 years ago. However, habitat destruction, fragmentation, and human activities continue to threaten their survival. The DOE’s ongoing initiatives aim to protect this species and maintain biodiversity in Iran, underscoring the importance of conservation efforts.
