The 4th Silk Road International Youth Photography and Short Video Competition is now accepting submissions from young creators aged 12 to 20. Organized with Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the competition, themed “Bridging Cultures,” aims to promote cultural exchange along the historic Silk Road. Participants can submit up to two original entries by August 31, focusing on cultural heritage and traditional themes. Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri, met with the new UN Tourism Secretary-General, Shaikha Al Nowais, during the UN General Assembly in Riyadh. Their discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in sustainable and cultural tourism. Salehi-Amiri emphasized Iran’s significant role in global tourism, boasting over one million historical sites and 29 UNESCO World Heritage properties. He announced ambitious plans to double tourist numbers and improve infrastructure. Salehi-Amiri invited Al Nowais to the Tehran International Tourism Exhibition in February, aiming to strengthen international partnerships and showcase Iran’s rich cultural and natural offerings. Al Nowais expressed support for Iran’s tourism initiatives.
Iran is actively working to protect and enhance Persepolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site, amid growing concerns over erosion of its ancient stone reliefs. Site director Mohammad-Javad Jafari announced a comprehensive management and conservation plan is nearing completion and will soon be presented for final approval. Approximately 57 hectares surrounding Persepolis have been acquired for tourism infrastructure and access management. Recent projects include expanding the Persepolis Museum and restoration work on significant historical locations. Jafari emphasized the importance of protecting Persepolis, stating it is a national and global responsibility, and plans for international collaboration are in place.
