VP Calls for Enhanced Security Measures Following Chabahar Terrorist Attack

Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref has recently emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security measures in Sistan and Baluchestan Province following a devastating explosion at a government facility. This incident, which Aref condemned as a terrorist act, has raised concerns about safety in the region.

On Saturday evening, Aref engaged in discussions with both Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadeq and Governor General Mansour Bijar of Sistan and Baluchestan Province. These conversations were prompted by an earlier explosion that occurred in the city of Chabahar, specifically targeting the department of the Housing Foundation, which is dedicated to providing housing for the underprivileged.

Although there were no reported casualties from the blast, significant damage occurred, prompting Aref to call for a thorough investigation into the incident. He requested detailed information about:

  • The nature of the explosion
  • The extent of the damage
  • The current situation following this terrorist act

Aref further stressed the importance of implementing robust security measures to safeguard the residents of this southeastern province. He reassured the public that such incidents would not undermine the Islamic Republic’s commitment to developing its border regions.

Sistan and Baluchestan Province, which shares borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, is Iran’s second-largest province. Unfortunately, it has faced persistent underdevelopment over the years. In response, President Masoud Pezeshkian has prioritized developmental initiatives in this area, making it the first stop on his provincial tours after assuming office in late July last year.
