VP Highlights Strengthening Iran-Tajikistan Economic Cooperation Commission for Enhanced Partnership
Tehran is witnessing a significant push towards enhancing economic cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan, as emphasized by Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref. The emphasis on strengthening the Iran-Tajikistan joint economic cooperation commission is crucial for the strategic development of Tehran-Dushanbe relations.
During a joint press conference held in Tehran with Tajikistan’s Prime Minister, Qohir Rasulzoda, Aref underscored the complementary nature of the economies of both nations. He highlighted several key areas for collaboration:
- Activation of Private Sectors: Aref called for both countries to engage their private sectors actively.
- Visa Waiver Agreement: The recent visa waiver agreement has opened avenues for people and businesses from both Iran and Tajikistan.
- Tourism Development: He urged prioritizing tourism relations between the two nations.
In his address, Rasulzoda reiterated Tajikistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Iran. He outlined specific sectors ripe for collaboration, including:
- Technical engineering services
- Pharmaceuticals
- Technology
- Agriculture
- Energy
- Transportation
- Tourism
- Utilization of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas ports
Rasulzoda also mentioned the importance of implementing a long-term commercial program by 2030, along with the development of roadmaps for both countries.
In a separate engagement with Azerbaijan Prime Minister Ali Asadov, Aref reiterated the Iranian government’s strategy of fostering comprehensive relations with neighboring countries. He stressed the necessity of:
- Preparing a comprehensive strategic plan by the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Commission.
- Enhancing trade transactions between the two nations.
- Leveraging the private sector’s capacity to boost economic cooperation.
In response, Asadov expressed Azerbaijan’s resolve to strengthen ties with Iran.
