DOE Chief Set to Represent U.S. at COP30 Summit in Brazil: Key Climate Talks Ahead!

TEHRAN – The upcoming 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP30, is set to take place in Belém, Brazil, from November 6 to 21. Shina Ansari, the head of the Department of Environment (DOE), will represent Iran at this significant event. COP30 promises to be a pivotal gathering where world leaders, scientists, and representatives from non-governmental organizations will convene to strategize on urgent climate action.

Strengthening Iran’s Role in Climate Discussions

In August, Shina Ansari and the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) engaged in discussions aimed at bolstering Iran’s participation at COP30. Ansari emphasized the significant role the private sector can play in climate negotiations.

During this meeting, Ansari pointed out that the current administration has assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the responsibility for the climate change negotiation committee. However, she expressed the DOE’s intent to take over this responsibility to enhance the country’s climate strategy.

To facilitate this transition, Ansari proposed the establishment of memorandums of understanding (MOUs) that would promote collaborative efforts between the DOE and ICCIMA. This partnership could include joint research projects aimed at addressing climate challenges.
