The International Youth Day (IYD), celebrated annually on August 12, focuses on the potential of youth as vital partners in global society. This year’s theme, ‘Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond’, emphasizes the crucial role that young individuals play in transforming global goals into community-driven realities.

The significance of youth engagement is paramount as development partners strive to implement global goals tailored to specific local contexts. Young people possess creativity, insight, and strong community ties that are essential in bridging the gap between policy and practice. With over 65 percent of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets linked to local governance, it is clear that youth involvement is not merely beneficial but essential.

“In today’s world, where the competition among countries relies more than ever on the productivity of knowledge and human resources, no factor other than the youth population can contribute to a hopeful future for any nation,” stated Alireza Raeisi, an official from the health ministry, as reported by IRNA. His remarks came during the national population week observed from May 14 to 20.

Iran is currently experiencing a population window of opportunity, characterized by a significant proportion of the population being of working age. This unique phase presents opportunities for economic, social, and cultural growth, necessitating comprehensive policies in various sectors such as:
