Iranian students have once again demonstrated their remarkable talents on the global stage by winning several prestigious awards at international competitions, including the Yakutia International Science Fair (YISF) and the World Invention Creativity Olympics (WICO). These achievements highlight the strength of Iranian innovation and creativity in science and technology.

The Yakutia International Science Fair (YISF) took place in Yakutsk, Russia, from July 6 to 9, featuring 129 teams from 10 different countries competing in two main categories. The categories were:

  • Category 1: Mathematics, Computer Science, and Information Technology
  • Category 2: Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering

In the second category, Iranian students Mehran Rajabi and Alireza Jafarnejad achieved first place for their innovative project titled ‘EcoNet Bin: AI-Driven Waste Segregation with IoT-Enabled’. Following them, Moeid Rajabi and Helena Rajabi secured the second position with their project ‘Protecting Curious Little Minds: A Smart Child Safety Solution with IoT and Image Processing’.

The third place was awarded to Artin Radmatin, Baran Bahman, Mohammad-Hossein Ezzati, Niki Abtahi, Sarina Nosrati, and Baran Derakhshandeh for their project focused on ‘Evaluation of the effect of using magnetic gear in improving the performance of process systems based on mechanical gear’.

In addition, Zhina Aminorroaya-Karladani received a special prize for her innovative project, ‘UVGuard Grooming Brush’.

In the first category, Artin Salari and Amir-Abbas Kavosi Amin secured the second position with their project ‘Smart Glasses for the Blind with Real-Time Object Detection’. Ilia Majidzadeh Heravi and Parsa Karimi Yazdi followed closely in third place with their project ‘CommuniMate SmartApp: An Innovative Solution for Deaf Communication’.

The World Invention Creativity Olympics (WICO) serves as a global platform for inventors to exhibit their creations, exchange ideas, and gain recognition. The 14th WICO was conducted from July 17 to 19 at Seoul National University of Education in South Korea, organized by the Korea University Invention Association (KUIA). This year’s event saw participation from 313 teams across 28 countries, fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration.

At WICO, Radin Abbasi and Sam Rashidi were awarded the gold medal for their groundbreaking humanoid robot, NannyBot, designed to manage children’s activities through the Internet of Things. Additionally, Matin Hayati earned a silver medal for his project on ‘Automatic analysis and display of EEG signals for seizure prediction using frequency band analysis’, while Raman Nafarieh received another silver for his study on ‘Studying the effect of plant nanogels on skin cancer cells’.

Recent Achievements of Iranian Students

In a remarkable display of talent, the Iranian team of four high school students also garnered two silver medals and two bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), held from August 2 to 9 in Beijing, China. Arash Yousefnejad and Ali Shayan claimed silver medals, while Parsa Golestani and Radin Rahmani-Nodehi earned bronze medals, according to IRIB.

Additionally, Iran achieved two silver medals and two bronze medals at the Eighth International Economics Olympiad (IEO 2025) held from July 20 to 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, with participation from 68 countries.

During the 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2025) held from July 19 to 27 in Quezon City, Philippines, four Iranian students secured three gold medals and a silver medal, placing second among 81 participating countries, an improvement from their third-place finish in 2024.

Furthermore, five Iranian students won silver medals at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2025), which took place from July 18 to 24 in Paris, with 440 candidates from over 90 countries competing. Iran ranked 11th globally in this event.

At the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2025), held from July 10 to 20 in Australia, Iran secured two gold medals, three silver medals, and a bronze medal. Bardia Khosh-Eqbal and Mehdi Aqajanloo won gold, while Mohammad-Reza Attaranzadeh, Mohammad-Sajad Memari, and Amir-Hossein Zarei brought home silver medals. Parsa Tajallaei earned a bronze medal.

The Iranian team also ranked second in the 3rd International Mathematics Summer Camp (IMSC), which was held in Beijing, China, from June 20 to July 12, 2025.

Moreover, during the second International Mathematics Olympiad for high school students in Turkmenistan, Iranian students achieved a notable feat by winning seven bronze medals. This competition saw participation from over 230 talented students representing 15 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Armenia, Bulgaria, Nepal, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Qatar, and Turkmenistan.

These impressive accomplishments reflect the dedication and hard work that Iranian students put into their studies and projects, reinforcing Iran’s reputation in the global academic arena.
