Plans for direct or indirect flights between Kish and Makhachkala are set for 2025, aiming to boost tourist traffic. At an international Iranology conference, Armenian expert Vartan Voskanyan emphasized the preservation of Armenian cultural heritage in Iran, countering negative media portrayals. Iran is designating Shirvan as the national hub for Dotar making, a traditional stringed instrument vital to its musical heritage. During her visit, Deputy Minister Maryam Jalali-Dehkordi emphasized the importance of finalizing the national registration for Dotar craftsmanship to boost local artisans and enhance tourism. She advocated for the formation of unions and cooperatives to improve artisans’ access to resources and support. Jalali-Dehkordi also highlighted the need for better marketing strategies and international connections to ensure the craft’s sustainability. The Dotar, recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, symbolizes community identity and storytelling.
The 6th Ministerial Meeting on Tourism organized by the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held in Erzurum, designated as the ECO Tourism Capital for 2025. Tourism leaders from nine ECO Member States discussed strategies to enhance regional tourism cooperation. ECO Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan emphasized tourism’s role in regional integration, while Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, highlighted Turkey’s tourism achievements. Future ECO Tourism Capitals were designated: Lahore (2027), Mary (2028), and Karakol (2029).
