National Nurses Week in Iran will be celebrated from October 24 to 30 under the theme “Iran, the heart of the nurse.” This week aims to honor nurses’ dedication, enhance their knowledge, and promote better patient care through daily themed activities. Each day will focus on different aspects of nursing, including health, sacrifice, and community service. President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the essential role of nurses in healthcare and emphasized a commitment to social justice and support for marginalized populations. The week serves as a reminder of nurses’ contributions to health equity and the importance of teamwork in improving community well-being.
Environmental health is vital for community well-being, especially as urban areas grapple with severe air pollution. Alireza Raeisi from the health ministry emphasized the need for cross-sectoral strategies to improve air quality during World Environmental Health Day on September 26. The theme ‘Clean Air, Healthy People’ highlights the link between air quality and public health. Air pollution causes numerous health issues, including respiratory diseases and premature deaths. In Iran, air pollution is linked to 50,000 annual deaths. Urgent action, including stringent regulations and public awareness, is necessary to mitigate pollution’s impact, benefiting both health and climate change efforts.
Iran’s ICT Minister Sattar Hashemi recently engaged with counterparts from Algeria and Kenya during the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) in Baku. Discussions focused on enhancing digital collaboration in areas like smart government, the digital economy, and cybersecurity. The Civil Registration Organization of Iran reported 979,923 births registered from March 2024 to March 2025, with Tehran province leading at 120,562 births and Ilam province having the lowest at 6,534. The average age of first-time mothers was 27.5 years, while fathers averaged 32.3 years, showing urban-rural discrepancies. Urban mothers averaged 28.2 years and fathers 32.8 years, compared to rural mothers at 24.4 years and fathers at 30 years. Iran has launched its first national production line for electroporation systems, becoming Asia’s leader in this advanced cancer treatment technology. The inauguration ceremony took place at the University of Tehran. The electroporation device enhances the effectiveness of anti-cancer drugs by using electrical pulses to increase cancer cell permeability. It has already benefited over a thousand patients, with over 200 cases avoiding amputation. Additionally, Iran developed a new synthesis method for Technetium (99mTc) tilmanocept, enhancing cancer diagnostics. These innovations reflect Iran’s commitment to healthcare self-sufficiency and set a precedent for effective, domestically produced cancer treatments in the region.
Between November 8 and 14, Iran experienced 152 earthquakes, as reported by the University of Tehran’s Institute of Geophysics. This included 133 minor quakes (magnitude <3), 18 moderate quakes (magnitude 3-4), and one significant quake (magnitude 4) in the Caspian Sea. The province of Yazd had the highest activity with 13 quakes, while Tehran recorded three. In the past year, Iran saw 6,272 earthquakes, highlighting its vulnerability in a seismically active region. With over 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century attributed to Iran, ongoing monitoring and preparedness are vital for safety and disaster management.
