Zarif Engages World Leaders in High-Stakes Discussions at Davos 2025

During the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos 2025, Iran’s Vice President for Strategic Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, is actively engaging with senior officials from various nations. His diplomatic efforts are aimed at fostering dialogue and cooperation amid pressing regional issues.

Zarif departed from Tehran on Monday to participate in this significant meeting, which is set to take place from January 20 to 24 in Davos, Switzerland. On the second day of the summit, he engaged in discussions with a range of high-profile leaders:

  • President of Finland, Alexander Stubb
  • Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani
  • Foreign Ministers of Spain and Switzerland
  • Prime Minister of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Masroor Barzani

During his conversation with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Zarif focused on the evolving situation in West Asia. They discussed:

  • Qatar’s initiatives to curb violence in Gaza
  • The establishment of a ceasefire
  • The necessity for peace and stability in the Middle East through comprehensive dialogue among Persian Gulf nations

Zarif expressed his support for the improvement of regional relations and praised various initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation among Persian Gulf countries. In his talks with Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Masroor Barzani, the importance of forming an inclusive government in Syria was underscored. They emphasized:

  • The need for representation of all ethnicities and religions
  • Increased collaboration among all factions and nations

Additionally, Zarif met with European officials, including Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, and Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares. These leaders reiterated the global responsibility to:

  • Enhance stability in Syria
  • Maintain its territorial integrity

The high-profile Iranian diplomat stressed the urgency of addressing the crimes of the Zionist regime. He asserted that sustainable peace in the Middle East can only be attained by tackling the root causes of Palestinian suffering, putting an end to occupation, and recognizing the rights of the Palestinian people.
