She urged nations to recognize environmental security as essential for global stability, advocating for peace, justice, and cooperation to protect our planet.
Lake Urmia, one of the largest salt lakes globally, is experiencing a recovery with a notable rise in water levels, now at 1.55 billion cubic meters—an increase of 160 million cubic meters from last year. Despite a 38% decline in precipitation, collaborative projects led by the UNDP and funded by Japan aim to promote sustainable agriculture and conserve the ecosystem. Since 1995, the lake has faced significant challenges due to climate change and agricultural expansion, prompting ongoing restoration efforts. The Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) and the Silk Road Joint Science Fund (SRSF), in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), are funding six innovative research projects in critical areas such as Water Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Each project will receive 40 billion rials (about $44,000) over three years.
