Vice President Declares: Nuclear Weapons Unnecessary for Iran’s Defense Strategy

In a recent interview, First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref reaffirmed that Iran’s nuclear program is entirely peaceful, asserting that nuclear weapons have no role in the nation’s defense strategy. This statement comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear intentions and its diplomatic interactions with the United States.

Aref emphasized that:

  • Iran has consistently maintained a commitment to peaceful nuclear activities.
  • The country’s nuclear doctrine explicitly excludes the use of nuclear weapons.
  • Mutual respect and equality are essential for successful negotiations with the U.S.

During the interview, Aref stated, “Iran has never pursued non-peaceful nuclear activities and will continue to uphold this stance.” He highlighted the importance of dialogue, noting that Iran is willing to engage in discussions but will not tolerate unfair demands from the other side.

Aref expressed optimism regarding the potential outcomes of the indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, stating that these discussions could lead to significant developments, including the lifting of sanctions.

Furthermore, he reiterated that the Iranian government is dedicated to diplomacy and cooperation, aiming to promote unity and constructive engagement with international partners while avoiding confrontation.

In recent developments, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi conducted the fifth round of indirect talks with U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, in Rome. These discussions are being facilitated by Oman, with previous rounds held in Muscat and Rome.

As the situation evolves, the global community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that supports peace and stability in the region.
