Iran and U.S. Achieve Breakthrough in Relations After Serious Talks, Says Araqchi

In recent developments regarding the Iran-U.S. negotiations, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has announced that the fourth round of indirect talks has shown significant progress. This round was characterized by a more serious and detailed approach, allowing both sides to gain a deeper understanding of each other’s positions.

Speaking to reporters in Muscat, where Omani officials facilitated the discussions, Araqchi highlighted several key aspects of this round:

  • Increased Seriousness: Araqchi stated, “Compared to the previous three rounds, this session was much more direct and serious.”
  • Focus on Details: The negotiations moved beyond generalities, diving into specific issues, which added complexity to the discussions.
  • Productive Discussions: Despite the challenges, Araqchi described the talks as “highly beneficial,” noting a better mutual understanding between the parties.
  • Convergence of Positions: The Iranian chief negotiator mentioned that key points of contention were discussed in greater depth, leading to a slight convergence of positions between Tehran and Washington.

Araqchi confirmed that both sides agreed to continue the conversation, with the timing and location of the next round to be determined based on their schedules. Oman will coordinate these arrangements.

The discussions, which lasted several hours in Muscat and were mediated by the Omani foreign minister, primarily focused on Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions—critical issues in the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
