Iran’s Foreign Minister: U.S. Actions Undermine Diplomatic Credibility

In a recent statement, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasized that Iran remains dedicated to developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. He expressed concerns regarding the inconsistent actions of U.S. officials, which contribute to a growing distrust in the diplomatic process.

During a phone conversation with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Friday, Araqchi conveyed Iran’s responsible approach to addressing the fabricated issues surrounding its peaceful nuclear program. He highlighted that progress in diplomacy requires genuine willingness and a realistic attitude from all parties involved.

As a signatory of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Iran is committed to meeting its obligations while asserting its right to utilize nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, which includes the necessity for uranium enrichment. He stated:

“As a member state of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Iran abides by its commitments while insisting on its right to possess nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.”

Araqchi also pointed out the need for the other parties to honor their commitments, noting:

“Relevant parties must refrain from proposing issues contrary to the NPT and must provide assurances regarding the removal of anti-Iran sanctions.”

The Foreign Minister criticized the contradictory comments and actions of American officials, stating that ongoing sanctions and threats exacerbate the distrust regarding Washington’s commitment to diplomacy. He remarked:

“The contradictory behaviors and comments of American officials, along with the continuation of sanctions and threats against the Iranian nation, have intensified distrust and suspicion.”

Regarding past discussions with Germany, France, and Britain, Araqchi reiterated Iran’s readiness to engage with European parties. He expressed hope that these nations would take a constructive approach to peacefully resolve existing differences.

In response to Araqchi’s remarks, Guterres commended the Foreign Minister for articulating the developments related to the indirect negotiations with the U.S. He acknowledged the significance of this process in achieving favorable outcomes. Guterres also offered his condolences to the Iranian people regarding the recent tragic explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port.

In summary, the dialogue between Iran and the U.S. remains critical, and a cooperative approach is necessary to foster peace and understanding in the region.
