This visit aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and discuss matters of mutual interest, particularly the ongoing indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

The diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States has seen two rounds of talks, facilitated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, with a third round set to occur in Muscat, Oman. Araqchi emphasized the importance of these discussions during his visit.

  • “China and Russia have been our strategic partners and close friends during challenging times,” Araqchi stated.
  • He highlighted the significance of ongoing consultations with these nations, especially in light of indirect talks with the U.S.
  • Araqchi also mentioned his recent trip to Russia, focusing on similar discussions.

The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for China’s longstanding support of Iran’s civilian nuclear program. He affirmed that consultations with China would continue, noting its role as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a key partner for Iran.

In a statement on his X page, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei shared that Araqchi’s visit includes meetings with top Chinese officials to further enhance diplomatic relations. He praised the evolving “historical-civilizational” relationship between Tehran and Beijing over the last fifty years.

Baqaei concluded by stating, “Continuous and close consultations between the two sides at high levels are a clear manifestation of the determination from the leaders of both countries to expand relations in all areas of mutual interest.”
