On April 27, 2025, the 17th edition of Iran’s Regional Music Festival commenced in Bandar Abbas, the vibrant capital of Hormozgan province. This year’s festival proudly features 32 music groups representing 22 provinces, showcasing a blend of solo and group performances that allow attendees to connect deeply with regional music traditions. During the opening ceremony, Foad Tohidi, the festival secretary, warmly welcomed the audience and expressed gratitude for their participation. He shared insights about the artists performing on the festival’s first day. The ceremony also honored several veteran musicians, acknowledging their contributions to Iranian music.

However, the festival took on a somber tone following a tragic incident on Saturday at Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan. The explosion resulted in at least 25 fatalities and over 750 injuries. In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, the second day of the festival was dedicated to the victims and their families, featuring mournful pieces and elegies from various regions of the country.

The artists participating in the festival expressed their readiness to donate blood to those injured in this tragic event, demonstrating the profound sense of community and support among the musicians. The festival organizers also extended their condolences, wishing eternal peace for the deceased and health and resilience for the injured and survivors.
