Vibrant Melodies Take Center Stage: Iran’s Regional Music Festival Launches in Bandar Abbas
On April 27, 2025, the 17th edition of Iran’s Regional Music Festival commenced in Bandar Abbas, the vibrant capital of Hormozgan province. This annual festival has become a significant cultural event, drawing attendees dressed in colorful attire and speaking a variety of dialects, all eager to immerse themselves in the rich musical tapestry of Iran’s diverse ethnic groups.
This year’s festival proudly features 32 music groups representing 22 provinces, showcasing a blend of solo and group performances that allow attendees to connect deeply with regional music traditions. During the opening ceremony, Foad Tohidi, the festival secretary, warmly welcomed the audience and expressed gratitude for their participation. However, the festival took on a somber tone following a tragic incident on Saturday at Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan. The explosion resulted in at least 25 fatalities and over 750 injuries. In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, the second day of the festival was dedicated to the victims and their families, featuring mournful pieces and elegies from various regions of the country.
The artists participating in the festival expressed their readiness to donate blood to those injured in this tragic event, demonstrating the profound sense of community and support among the musicians. The festival organizers also extended their condolences, wishing eternal peace for the deceased and health and resilience for the injured and survivors.
