UAE and Arab Leaders Unite on $53 Billion Initiative to Rebuild Gaza
The recent summit held in Cairo has led to significant developments regarding the reconstruction of Gaza. Arab leaders have collectively endorsed an Egyptian plan that aims to revitalize the region with a budget of $53 billion. Abdelatty stated, “The future of Gaza will be managed by a non-partisan committee temporarily, and in parallel, the Palestinian Authority will be empowered to operate on the ground and undertake security tasks related to early recovery and reconstruction.”
In response, Hamas expressed its support for both the reconstruction plan and the establishment of the Palestinian committee. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who has led the PA since 2005, also welcomed the Egyptian initiative. He urged President Trump to back a proposal that prioritizes the well-being of Palestinian residents and avoids any dislocation.
Abbas further indicated his readiness to hold both presidential and parliamentary elections, contingent upon favorable circumstances. He reiterated that the PA remains the sole legitimate governing and military authority within the Palestinian territories.
