Pezeshkian Applauds Pakistan’s Solidarity with Iran Amidst Ongoing Israeli Conflict

In a significant development for Iran-Pakistan relations, President Masoud Pezeshkian recently signed 12 cooperation memoranda with Pakistani officials, marking an important step towards strengthening bilateral ties. During his visit, he expressed his gratitude towards the Pakistani government and its leadership for their warm hospitality.

President Pezeshkian acknowledged the critical support from Pakistan during a recent period of tension, stating, “I am pleased to be in my second home, dear Pakistan. I sincerely thank the honorable government and my dear brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for their warm hospitality.” He highlighted the united stance of Pakistan in defending Iran against foreign aggression, which he described as “very encouraging.”

The historical friendship between Iran and Pakistan is characterized by strong religious, cultural, and spiritual connections. Pezeshkian emphasized that promoting neighborly relations is a fundamental principle of Iran’s foreign policy. He reiterated that Iran views Pakistan not solely as a neighboring country but as a brotherly state.

“I firmly believe bilateral trade can easily be increased from the current $3 billion to the targeted $10 billion in a short period,” Pezeshkian stated, underscoring the commitment to deepening ties across various sectors. He mentioned that the recent cooperation memorandums lay the groundwork for significant advancements in several fields, including:

  • Political relations
  • Economic collaboration
  • Trade agreements
  • Cultural exchange
  • Tourism development
  • Transportation improvements
  • Academic partnerships

During President Pezeshkian’s official visit to Pakistan on Sunday, senior officials from both nations signed the agreements after engaging in a joint meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation. The signed documents cover a range of sectors, including:

  1. Tourism
  2. Agriculture
  3. Judicial and legal cooperation
  4. Industry
  5. Science and technology
  6. Transport and transit
  7. Cultural heritage
  8. Trade and economic collaboration

These agreements provide a robust framework to facilitate knowledge exchange, expand trade capabilities, and strengthen interactions between the people of both nations, fostering regional synergy. Pezeshkian assured that Iran is committed to continuing discussions and establishing actionable plans to implement these agreements effectively.

He also highlighted the significance of expanding transit routes, including rail, road, and sea connections, as well as developing border markets and establishing joint economic zones. These initiatives are deemed essential for enhancing bilateral relations and facilitating trade.

Another critical aspect of their discussions was the need to enhance security cooperation between the two nations, especially in light of threats posed by terrorist groups in border regions. The leaders focused on strategies to secure borders and ensure peace for residents of border towns.

In a recent context of conflict, Pezeshkian addressed the military actions involving Iran, stating that while the Zionist regime initiated a war of aggression against Iran on June 13, the United States also began military operations against key Iranian sites on June 22. In response, the Iranian military launched effective counterattacks, leading to significant retaliatory actions by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force.

“The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force carried out 22 waves of retaliatory missile strikes against the Zionist regime as part of Operation True Promise III, inflicting heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories,” Pezeshkian remarked. He also mentioned missile strikes targeting the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military installation in West Asia, as a direct response to the U.S. assaults.

A ceasefire that took effect on June 24 ultimately brought an end to the hostilities, marking a critical juncture in the ongoing tensions in the region.

Overall, the recent agreements between Iran and Pakistan represent a hopeful outlook for future collaboration. As both nations navigate complex geopolitical landscapes, the commitment to deepen bilateral relations will be crucial in fostering stability and mutual growth.
