Parliament Speaker Slams Silence on Israeli Regime’s Atrocities in Gaza

In a recent address, Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf underscored the critical importance of supporting Gaza, emphasizing that silence and indifference toward the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime are unforgivable sins. His remarks come amidst a growing humanitarian crisis that has captured global attention.

During his visit to Indonesia for the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), Qalibaf spoke to students at Jakarta’s Syarif Hidayatullah University on Thursday morning. He articulated the Islamic perspective on confronting oppression as:

  • A religious obligation that transcends time and place.
  • A humanitarian necessity that reflects the core values of Islam.

Qalibaf stated, “In this current era, the global Islamic community is witnessing profound injustice and the suffering of our Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip.” He added, “These humanitarian tragedies pain the hearts of every freedom-seeking individual and challenge the conscience of humanity.”

He called for:

  • Unified condemnation from Muslims worldwide against the aggression faced by Palestinians.
  • Strong support for their ongoing struggle for justice and self-determination.

In his speech, Qalibaf warned that silence in the face of such crimes signifies complicity with the oppressors and a disregard for human and Islamic values. He declared, “This is beneath the dignity of any Islamic country.”

He further criticized the unwavering support of the U.S. administration for the aggressors, stating that it encourages ongoing crimes and perpetuates suffering. He noted, “Such support not only violates international laws and norms but also contradicts humanitarian and moral principles.”

Qalibaf drew parallels between Indonesia’s historical fight against colonialism and the current need for the Islamic world to unite in solidarity with Palestine. He emphasized, “In Islamic thought, silence in the face of oppression is a betrayal—betrayal of the Quran, of history, and of humanity.”

At the conclusion of his speech, Qalibaf unveiled the translated version of Martyr Morteza Motahhari’s book titled “Islam and Iran: A Historical Study of Mutual Services.”
