Parliament Speaker Calls U.S. Support for Israel the Catalyst of Regional Unrest

In a recent statement, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has criticized the United States for its role in fueling instability in West Asia, particularly through its support for what he describes as the “Zionist mafia.” During his address at the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) conference held in Jakarta, he characterized Israel as a proxy force for Washington in the region.

Qalibaf highlighted that the world is currently facing an unprecedented convergence of crises, which include:

  • Increased tariffs
  • Climate change
  • Economic instability
  • Rising insecurity

According to Qalibaf, “The assumption of a rules-based international order is now seriously questioned,” emphasizing that “Trust in global institutions is at its lowest recorded level.”

In his comments regarding the situation in Palestine, he stated that the ongoing Gaza conflict has exacerbated a “historic wound” within the Islamic community. He asserted, “This is not merely a war; it is a full-fledged genocide,” adding that “Everyone knows this criminal mafia could not act with such brutality without the green light from the United States.”

Qalibaf called for collective action from Islamic nations to:

  • End the blockade on Gaza
  • Isolate Israel politically, economically, and militarily

He firmly believes that “a democratic solution lies in recognizing the Palestinians’ right to self-determination,” advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with holy Quds as its capital, which should be decided through a nationwide referendum following the return of the refugees.

  • Europe’s Quest to Challenge and Discredit the IAEA: A New Era of Accountability?

The upcoming IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna is expected to be significant, with Britain, Germany, and France advancing an anti-Iranian agenda through a draft resolution for increased oversight of Iran’s nuclear program. This approach, based on IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi’s report, may lack legal standing due to the expiration of Security Council Resolution 2231. The European nations, supported by the U.S., risk institutionalizing tensions with Iran and undermining trust in the IAEA. Iran remains committed to peaceful nuclear energy and emphasizes the need for a balanced diplomatic approach, as the international community closely monitors the situation.
