Judiciary Chief Signals Commitment to Extradite Convicts to India: Strengthening International Justice
Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei recently made a significant appeal to his Indian counterpart, Sanjiv Khanna, regarding the extradition of convicts. This discussion took place during the 20th Meeting of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Hangzhou, China.
According to a report by the Mizan news agency, which is affiliated with Iran’s Judiciary, Mohseni Ejei emphasized the importance of facilitating the extradition process for Iranian and Indian convicts who have shown a need for legal remission. Here are the key points from his remarks:
- Tehran is ready to sign a memorandum of understanding with New Delhi focusing on various legal and judicial fields.
- Special emphasis was placed on the extradition of convicts, particularly those who are not considered professional criminals.

In addition to extradition discussions, Iran is also willing to share its experiences in security and legal affairs. This includes:

The judiciary chief further noted that the Islamic Republic believes that member states of the SCO and BRICS group can find common ground to address challenges and international issues. He urged these nations to enhance their collaboration, especially in developing biological processes.
Addressing the perspectives of certain Western countries on terrorism, human rights, and judicial matters, he pointed out that they often try to impose their views globally.
Mohseni Ejei, leading a high-ranking judicial delegation, commenced his visit to China on Monday to participate in the SCO meeting. During the event, he delivered speeches at both the opening and closing ceremonies and engaged in discussions with his counterparts on various topics.
