Iran’s Parliament Speaker to Honor Late Hezbollah Leader Nasrallah at His Funeral in Lebanon
In a significant development, Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf is set to travel to Lebanon this Sunday to attend the funeral of prominent Hezbollah leaders. This visit underscores the ongoing political dynamics in the region.
According to a senior lawmaker, Alireza Salimi, who is a member of the Parliament’s presiding board, Qalibaf will be accompanied by various Iranian officials and lawmakers during this solemn occasion. The funeral procession will honor the lives of:
- Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah: The former secretary-general of Hezbollah, who was assassinated on September 27 last year in an Israeli airstrike in Dahieh, south of Beirut.
- Sayyed Hashem Safieddine: Nasrallah’s deputy, who was also targeted and killed by an Israeli airstrike in Dahieh on October 3.
The funeral and burial ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday in southern Lebanon, marking a pivotal moment for Hezbollah and its supporters. Nasrallah, who led Hezbollah for an impressive 32 years, was 64 years old at the time of his martyrdom, while Safieddine’s death was confirmed later in October following the airstrike.
