Iran’s Foreign Policy: President Pezeshkian Highlights Qatar’s Unique Role

Tehran, IRNA – President Masoud Pezeshkian has highlighted the significance of Iran’s relations with Qatar, emphasizing that while Iran focuses on fostering strong ties with regional and neighboring nations, Qatar occupies a unique position in its foreign policy.

During a joint press conference with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, on Wednesday afternoon, Pezeshkian stated:

“We made good decisions to develop and deepen relations and open new avenues of cooperation.”

He commended Qatar’s mediating role, which contributed to a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners. He stated:

In response, the Qatari Emir stressed the importance of enhancing relations with Iran, asserting that:

“Dialogue is the best solution to overcome differences.”

Sheikh Tamim expressed his satisfaction over his visit to Iran, noting that it comes at a critical time when the West Asian region faces significant challenges that necessitate collaboration and consultation for resolution.

He praised President Pezeshkian’s visit to Doha in October, describing it as an excellent opportunity to strengthen their brotherly and historical relations. He added:

“We are confident that the continuation of such visits can help expand these relations further.”

During their discussions, the leaders focused on various areas of cooperation, particularly in:

  • Trade
  • Economy

Sheikh Tamim remarked on the importance of following up on the results from the recently concluded Joint Economic Commission meetings and increasing trade volume to achieve mutual goals.

He also noted the difficult conditions in the region, stressing that:

“The best way to resolve the conflicts is through constructive dialogue.”

The Emir welcomed Iran’s positive relations with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and other Islamic nations, based on shared interests and good neighborliness.

Furthermore, Sheikh Tamim highlighted that the Palestinian issue was a key topic of their discussions, advocating for adherence to the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the importance of humanitarian aid reaching those affected in Gaza. He expressed hope for:
