Araghchi Engages UAE and Egypt Foreign Ministers in Vital Regional Discussions

Iran Stands Firm: No Compromise on Uranium Enrichment Despite Pressure

In recent developments regarding the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, significant statements have emerged from Iranian officials. During a ceremony honoring the late President Ebrahim Raeisi at Imam Khomeini’s Hosseiniyeh, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the ongoing indirect negotiations, shedding light on Iran’s firm stance regarding uranium enrichment.

Araghchi expressed his concerns about the current American positions, labeling them as “completely irrational and illogical.” He emphasized that these remarks from the U.S. have not gone unanswered. “Uranium enrichment is not a negotiable issue from our perspective. I have already given a clear response over the past few days, and today, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has also made the position absolutely clear,” he stated.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Iran’s commitment to its principles, saying, “We entered negotiations based on principles that ensure the rights of the Iranian people, and we will not compromise on those rights under any circumstances.” This statement underscores Iran’s unwavering approach to the negotiations.

In alignment with Araghchi’s comments, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei also criticized the U.S. stance on uranium enrichment. He described the U.S. call for Iran to halt its enrichment activities as “nonsense.” Khamenei stated, “The issue of [nuclear] negotiations was brought up. I have a notice for the other side,” further indicating that such demands are unacceptable.

He added, “Saying things like ‘We will not allow Iran to enrich uranium’ is nonsense. No one [in Iran] is waiting for others’ permission. The Islamic Republic has its own policies and methods and will pursue them [independently].” This reflects Iran’s assertion of sovereignty and determination in its nuclear policy.

Khamenei also indicated that he would later clarify to the Iranian public the motivations behind the U.S. insistence on stopping uranium enrichment. “At another appropriate time, I will explain to the Iranian people why the Americans and their Western allies insist so strongly on stopping uranium enrichment in Iran. I will make it clear what their real intentions are,” he promised.

As the negotiations continue, Khamenei remains skeptical about the potential success of talks with the U.S. “We don’t think [nuclear] talks [with the US] will bring results. We don’t know what will happen,” he declared, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing dialogue.

Recently, Iranian negotiators, with Abbas Araghchi at the helm, engaged in a fourth round of discussions with an American delegation in Muscat. The American team was led by the U.S. President’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff. These talks have been mediated by Oman and have been described as both productive and progressing well by both sides.

Key points from the ongoing negotiations include:

  • Focus on Iran’s nuclear program: The discussions are centered on Iran’s nuclear capabilities and the implications for international security.
  • Lifting of sanctions: A potential agreement could lead to the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran, which have had significant economic impacts.
  • Replacement of the 2015 deal: The current talks aim to establish a new framework to replace the 2015 landmark deal from which the U.S. withdrew unilaterally during Trump’s administration.

As the negotiations evolve, both Iranian officials and the U.S. delegation appear committed to finding a resolution, despite the apparent tensions and disagreements regarding key issues such as uranium enrichment. The outcome of these discussions could significantly impact not only Iran’s nuclear ambitions but also its relations with Western powers.

In conclusion, the ongoing dialogue between Tehran and Washington underscores a complex landscape of diplomacy, national rights, and international expectations. With Iran firmly asserting its positions on uranium enrichment and the rights of its people, the path forward remains fraught with challenges. As both sides continue to engage in discussions, the world watches closely, anticipating the implications of their negotiations.
