Tehran Dismisses Arab League's Claim on Iranian Islands as Baseless and Unacceptable

Iran Refutes Claims of Secret Parallel Negotiations with the U.S.

In recent developments, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has firmly dismissed suggestions of a parallel negotiation track between Iran and the United States. This statement comes amidst ongoing indirect discussions involving Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff.

During a weekly press conference held in Tehran, Baqaei responded to an inquiry from an IRNA correspondent, emphasizing the singularity of the negotiation process. He stated, “The only negotiation process that exists on the part of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the one involving the esteemed foreign minister, and on the American side, the US president’s special envoy, who are leading the talks.” Furthermore, he reiterated that the outcomes of these negotiations have been communicated transparently.

The talks between Araqchi and Witkoff have so far included four rounds, all mediated by Oman. The discussions primarily focus on Iran’s nuclear program and the potential lifting of U.S. sanctions.

Key Statements from Baqaei

  • Enrichment is Non-Negotiable: Baqaei asserted that halting enrichment is not an option, calling it “absolutely non-negotiable.” He stated, “This achievement is the result of decades of effort, hard work, and the sacrifices of our nuclear scientists.”
  • Challenges in Negotiation: He described negotiating with the U.S. as difficult, stating it feels like “dealing with a party that adheres to none of the standard norms of a diplomatic process.”
  • Response to Snapback Mechanism: When asked about threats from European parties regarding the snapback mechanism, Baqaei warned that such actions indicate a lack of belief in diplomacy and could lead to reciprocal measures from Iran.
  • Concerns Over Israel: Baqaei expressed concerns regarding potential sabotage by Israel to disrupt the negotiations, highlighting that the occupying regime has no regard for international laws.

He stressed the importance of global vigilance against Israel, especially in light of the ongoing atrocities in Gaza. Baqaei noted, “The primary factor enabling the continuation of crimes in Gaza and the West Bank is the support of the U.S. and certain Western countries, including Britain, for the Zionist regime.”

As the situation evolves, it remains crucial for the international community to take effective action to address the challenges surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and the broader geopolitical tensions in the region.
