Iran Poised to Enhance Trilateral Cooperation with Russia and China, Says Araqchi

Moscow, IRNA – In a significant development regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has expressed Iran’s willingness to enhance trilateral discussions with Russia and China. This move highlights Tehran’s commitment to engaging in collaborative dialogues with its allies.

Araqchi shared insights during a recent interview with RT, stating, “We have started trilateral talks between Iran, Russia, and China on the issue of Iran’s nuclear program for some time now.” He mentioned that two meetings have already taken place and emphasized, “We are ready to continue these talks and expand them to other issues.”

In recent years, Iran has strengthened its ties with both Moscow and Beijing. Key developments include:

  • Membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2023
  • Joining the BRICS group in 2024
  • Increased military collaboration, including joint naval exercises off Iran’s coast in March

Araqchi noted that the three nations aim to deepen their cooperation to foster global peace and security. He stated, “Iran, China and Russia – in a coordinated move – can take effective steps towards international peace,” reinforcing their serious commitment to this goal.

He further explained that in the current international climate, close collaboration with Moscow and Beijing has become “a necessity” for Tehran.

Iran-Russia Relations: A Historic Strengthening

The remarks from Araqchi coincided with his visit to Moscow, where he conveyed a message from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He asserted, “Relations between Iran and Russia have never been closer and so stronger than at the current moment.”

Highlighting their shared perspectives on various international issues, Araqchi stated, “We have the same and close positions on many international issues. I do not want to say that there are no disagreements between us. Sometimes there are also differences of opinion, but in most cases we have close positions with each other and, most importantly, we are in constant exchange of views.”

Addressing Israeli Threats

Araqchi also addressed the threats posed by the Israeli regime, asserting that Tel Aviv has historically been unable to attack Iran and will continue to be incapable in the future. He emphasized that even with U.S. support, the Israeli regime would not succeed in military actions against the Islamic Republic.

He asserted, “As I said, we can defend ourselves even against the U.S., and the United States knows how capable we are.” Furthermore, he added, “The Israeli regime also knows what our defense capabilities are and what our response to any attack would be.”
