Iran and Oman Foreign Ministers Strategize for 3rd Round of Tehran-Washington Talks

The recent meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi in Muscat, Oman, marks a significant step in the ongoing diplomatic efforts surrounding the indirect talks between Iran and the United States.

Araqchi arrived in Muscat on Thursday, leading a diplomatic and technical delegation to further the discussions on critical issues. This meeting follows the previous rounds of talks, which were influenced by Oman’s role as a mediator.

The timeline of these negotiations includes:

  • First Round: April 12 in Muscat
  • Second Round: April 19 in Rome, Italy

The upcoming third round of negotiations is also set to be facilitated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, continuing Oman’s pivotal role in these discussions.

On a related note, U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to arrive in Muscat from Moscow on Saturday morning. This timing is critical as the third round of talks is scheduled to commence with an expert-level indirect meeting.

However, the presence of senior negotiators from both the American and Iranian sides raises the potential for a more dynamic negotiation process. There is a possibility for an indirect dialogue between Araqchi and Witkoff, mediated by Albusaidi.

As the situation develops, the focus remains on the outcomes of these high-stakes discussions, which could have significant implications for the region.
