Iran and EAEU Forge 3-Year Free Trade Roadmap: A New Era of Economic Collaboration

In a significant development for trade relations, Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have officially signed a three-year roadmap aimed at enhancing economic cooperation. This strategic agreement was inked in Moscow by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Mohammad Atabak, along with Andrey Slepnev, the Minister in Charge of Trade for the EAEU’s executive body. The signing ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, followed the inaugural committee meeting focused on the implementation of their existing free trade agreement. According to Atabak, the newly established roadmap will guide trade and economic interactions between Iran and the EAEU through to 2028. This agreement represents a significant advantage for Iranian exporters, as it reduces barriers and opens up new markets.

Prior to this landmark free trade deal, Iran and the EAEU were engaged in a preferential trade arrangement established by a deal signed in June 2017 in Armenia. In December of the previous year, during a Supreme Council meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Iran also signed an agreement to become an observer member of the EAEU. This status is expected to provide Iran with additional insights and opportunities to engage more deeply with the economic bloc.
