Discover Beijing’s Hidden Gem: CIPCC Unveils Tongzhou District in an Unforgettable Journalistic Adventure!

In a remarkable initiative organized by the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC), journalists from various media outlets were granted a unique opportunity to explore Tongzhou District, situated in the southeast of Beijing. This visit not only highlighted the region’s vibrant culture but also showcased the advancements under the “two zones” initiative, making it a significant event for media representatives, including myself from the Tehran Times.

The tour commenced with a visit to the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center (BMC), where journalists gathered to learn about the achievements of the “two zones” initiative. Here are some highlights from the visit:

  • Exhibition and Reception Hall: We engaged in informative dialogues with BMC officials and relevant departments, gaining insights into the region’s development strategies.
  • Grand Canal Boat Excursion: A scenic boat ride along the Grand Canal allowed us to delve into the area’s historical significance while enjoying the local culture.
  • Grand Canal Forest Park: The park, featuring a vast forest and diverse flora, provided a beautiful backdrop for relaxation and exploration.
  • Beijing Library: We visited the first public library in China to receive the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Public Library of the Year Award, highlighting its importance in promoting literacy and culture.

Additionally, the visit included a promotional event at the BMC, where senior officials from Tongzhou District shared updates on the region’s modernization plan. This initiative aims to enhance the living standards and economic growth of the area.

One of the key aspects of our tour was the opportunity to visit several technology companies in China. This provided us with a firsthand look at the latest advancements in the Chinese tech industry, showcasing the country’s commitment to innovation and development.

In recent years, Tongzhou District has made significant progress by adhering to the guiding principles outlined in the Detailed Regulatory Plan for the BMC. The region is focused on:

  1. Embracing Innovative Concepts: Tongzhou is committed to implementing modern ideas in urban planning and development.
  2. Meeting High Standards: The district aims to maintain superior quality in its infrastructure and services.
  3. Ensuring Steady Progress: The planning and construction of the BMC have been steadily advancing, fulfilling its role in alleviating population pressure from Beijing’s central urban area.

As a result of these initiatives, the focus has shifted from basic development to long-term planning and comprehensive upgrading. This approach has led to a remarkable economic growth rate for Tongzhou District, with a GDP increase of nearly 6% in 2024. This growth positions the district as a crucial player in helping the Chinese government achieve its economic targets for 2025.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang has set a target of around 5% growth for 2025, especially in light of the challenges posed by rising American tariffs on Chinese exports. The nation’s economy recorded a growth rate of 5% last year, fueled by various stimulus measures, robust exports, and significant investments in high technology.

The ongoing trade tensions between China and the US have led to a series of retaliatory measures, including additional tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on Chinese imports and corresponding tariffs on US agricultural products by China. These developments underscore the importance of initiatives like the one organized by the CIPCC, which aim to foster understanding and collaboration between nations.

The China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA) plays a vital role in coordinating the CIPCC’s biannual media exchange programs. This initiative is designed to create a platform for media representatives from various countries, particularly those in developing regions, to gain direct insights into China’s advancements and assess its developmental progress.

Through such exchanges, journalists can better understand the dynamics of China’s growth and the impact of various policies on its development trajectory. The experience in Tongzhou District not only offered a window into the region’s modernization efforts but also emphasized the importance of international dialogue in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

Overall, the visit to Tongzhou District was an enriching experience, shedding light on the region’s commitment to growth and modernization. As China continues to navigate its economic landscape amidst global challenges, initiatives like the CIPCC’s media exchange programs will remain essential in building connections and sharing knowledge across borders.
