Berlin Protesters Risk Deportation Amid Growing Solidarity for Gaza

Across the globe, demonstrations in solidarity with the Palestinian people have erupted, passionately calling for an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza. Activists are uniting to demand justice and highlight the humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians. Activists in Marseille, France, initiated a hunger strike on March 31 under the banner of “Strike for Justice in Palestine.” Their movement has since expanded to Geneva, Switzerland, aiming to raise global awareness and garner support for their cause. Pascal André, a French doctor involved in the hunger strike, shared his insights with Anadolu Agency.

“We, along with many of our fellow citizens, launched a hunger strike on March 31 in Marseille. Since then, we have traveled to 12 cities across France to engage with the public. The international laws on this matter are clear, but they are not being respected,” André stated.

Meanwhile, in Berlin, Germany, thousands took to the streets in response to calls from Gaza, demonstrating their opposition to the war. However, the Berlin Immigration Office has issued deportation orders for three European Union citizens and one American linked to protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza. These individuals are required to leave Germany by April 21, or face deportation, although their cases have yet to be adjudicated in court.

Recently, these deportation orders have sparked comparisons to the actions of the Trump administration in the U.S., specifically regarding student protesters. Critics argue that the freedom of movement for the EU citizens may be compromised, potentially conflicting with EU laws that protect this fundamental right.
