Five Iranian students won silver medals at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), elevating Iran to 11th in global rankings. The competition, held in Paris from July 18 to 24, included 440 participants from over 90 countries. The Iranian medalists are Mohammad-Hassan Sadeqinejad, Arya Zarabi, Ilya Qashaee, Mohammad-Hassan Golabdar, and Milad Mohammadi. Additionally, Iranian students excelled in mathematics, securing two gold, three silver, and one bronze medal at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad. Iranian officials are advocating for a “National Information Network” to replace global internet access, citing security threats and the need for tighter control over cyberspace. During her visit to Al-Zahra Hospital in Isfahan, Yumiko Takashima, UNHCR Representative in Iran, commended the hospital’s exceptional healthcare services for Afghan refugees, emphasizing their equitable treatment alongside Iranian patients. A delegation led by Shina Ansari from Iran’s Department of Environment is attending the Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul from October 17-19. The forum, organized by the Zero Waste Foundation and Turkish ministries, focuses on transforming waste management policies, mobilizing financial resources, and building international alliances. Iran faces severe waste management challenges, with improper handling of around 445,000 tons of waste daily, resulting in significant environmental damage estimated at $791 million annually. The Department of Environment is developing a national strategic plan to improve waste management practices, emphasizing waste reduction and recycling. The forum aims to foster global collaboration for sustainable solutions.
