The pottery, characterized by red pastes and unique designs, reflects local craftsmanship. Additionally, traditional water mills, crucial to Ilam’s industrial heritage, are found nearby, with several historical mills identified. The Oltan fortress in northwest Iran, a significant mud-brick archaeological site, may soon gain UNESCO World Heritage status, according to Iranian archaeologist Rouhollah Mohammadi. Located along the Aras River near Oltan, the fortress features historical elements such as a first-millennium BC cemetery, the Oltan tappeh from the Parthian and Sassanian periods, and a central citadel spanning various eras.
