The Iranian short film “Winner,” directed by Mahsa Akbarabadi, is set to make its international debut at three prestigious film festivals. The 8-minute fiction piece will first screen at the Showreel International Student Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from April 15-17, followed by the PLANET LENS Festival in Veszprém, Hungary, from May 15-18, and finally at the Vegan Çiftlik Short Film Festival in Izmir, Turkey, from June 5-7. Renowned Iranian-Armenian musician Loris Tjeknavorian will present a concert and opera based on Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh in Armenia this month. The festivities begin on March 22 with a gala concert at the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theater, followed by the opera “Rostam and Sohrab,” performed from March 31 to April 2. Tjeknavorian, who has dedicated 25 years to creating this 140-minute masterpiece, admires Ferdowsi’s work, likening its literary genius to Shakespeare.
